Headteacher's Welcome

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Werrington Primary School. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been granted the opportunity to continue to develop this fantastic school in the next stage of our collaborative improvement journey. I am a father of four children: two boys and two girls, who all have their own unique skills and attributes; who all learn and flourish in different ways. My goal as a parent has always been to ensure my children are happy in life and achieve their potential; this is the philosophy I bring to my role as Headteacher. My intention is that all children who attend Werrington Primary School are happy and are provided with all the necessary opportunities to be the best they can be, both socially and academically.

I have worked in education for over twenty years as a class teacher, phase leader and subject leader, before taking up a deputy head role in Market Deeping and then becoming Headteacher in Grantham in January 2023. I feel that my experiences in a range of schools and my experiences as a KS2 moderator and senior lead for education (SLE) in writing and curriculum development, give me the knowledge and skill set to take our school forward. At Werrington Primary School we have a hugely committed and talented staff team, and of course our wonderful children, which is a great place for any new Headteacher to start!

The needs of our children are always paramount in the life and decision making within a school. I strongly believe in providing our children with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in a variety of ways as they take on board new knowledge and develop their skills for a successful life. I believe that it is crucial to involve children and their families as partners in their education. I am also keen on continuing to develop a whole school community which thrives on mutual respect and values positive relationships. I know how vital working together in partnership is for the children to find school a positive and rewarding experience. I will ensure that there are open channels of communication available, so you, as parents, gain greater insight into your child’s ongoing learning journey via regular updates of their work and will also give you opportunities to share achievements outside of school more readily with your child’s class teacher via the introduction of the Seesaw app.

I feel it is important that you have a voice and that as a school we are approachable and allocate time to listen to your concerns, worries or thoughts about our school, as together, we can collectively find ways for further improvements. I look forward to meeting many of you on the school gates and beginning our journey together as we all strive to ensure that our children receive the very best education at our school.
